Polycom Supports Mission Critical Applications for the U.S. Government Agencies

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

The U.S. Department of Defense has awardedUnified Capabilities Approved Product List, or “UC APL,” certification to Polycom (News - Alert) RMX 2000.

Polycom, a global provider of telepresence, video and voice communication solutions, has designed this highly scalable and resilient multipoint conferencing platform for HD telepresence, audio and video conferencing.

The company’s solutions are able to complement the existing UC APL certifications for the Polycom HDX line of room and personal telepresence systems. By using all the Polycom solutions, government customers will be able to securely bridge telepresence and audio and video conferencing across secure networks to support a range of mission critical applications.

According to a release, the Joint Interoperability Test Command, or “JITC,” test the Unified Capabilities APL and these capabilities apply to every Department of Defense IT and National Security System.

These tests assure that the Combatant Commander, Services, and Agency systems can interoperate securely in a joint, combined, and coalition environment in order to support global net-centric war-fighting capabilities.

Built on an open, standards-based architecture, the Polycom RMX 2000 ensures interoperability and connectivity regardless of network type (H.323/SIP, PSTN, ISDN) or endpoint used.

This solution offers great flexibility for supporting HD telepresence, as well as legacy video conferencing systems. In addition, this solution supports the integration of real-time voice and video collaboration into core unified communications platforms from Polycom Open Collaboration Network partners.

“Real-time collaboration has become a critical element for our government customers, both on and off the battlefield,” said Barry Morris, vice president of Polycom Federal. “Certification of the Polycom RMX 2000 will enable our U.S. Federal customers to expand and improve the efficiency of information sharing in secure environments, so that well-informed decisions can be made.”

“Polycom continues to advance the security on our solutions and has an aggressive certification roadmap to meet the growing security requirements of our government customers,” Morris added.

Government agencies can leverage the Polycom RMX 2000 features such as Polycom Video Clarity (News - Alert) and Polycom Lost Packet Recovery for their benefit.

Polycom Video Clarity has the ability to upscale the resolution of non-HD video streams, and Polycom Lost Packet Recovery can protect conference quality.

The company claims that it is the only platform that can support up to 160 video and 800 audio calls on a single chassis without cascading. With this capability, agencies can accomplish a range of tasks such as optimization of their enterprise investments, consolidation of their infrastructure and reduction of energy consumption within their data centers.
