Wavion Adds Enhanced VoIP Support to its Wi-Fi Base Stations

By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor

Wavion, serving the metro and rural Wi-Fi market with a new category of Wi-Fi base station, has released a new software version with enhanced support for Voice-over-IP (VoIP) applications for residential and business connectivity.

The upgrade will allow the Wavion base stations to support a multitude of concurrent high quality voice calls in parallel to high capacity data flows. The new mechanism optimizes the air utilization and leverages Wavion’s powerful beamforming technology that provides high quality links.

The Wavion VoIP end-to-end solution integrates the WBS base station with off-the-shelf standard based components as Wi-Fi clients and a SIP bases ATA devices for the voice device. The Wavion solution can run on both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz license exempt bands. Wavion’s Data and VoIP bundled solution optimizes the number of simultaneous calls, application priority and other consideration to support an end-to-end carrier grade voice and data services.

The beamforming base stations provide higher range and throughput connectivity to standards-based Wi-Fi clients. Wavion’s Wi-Fi solution requires one third of the units than other competing Access Points (APs) to cover the same area, with higher indoor penetration and fewer dead spots, making it suitable for wide-area metro coverage.

In a release, Eran Kaplan, Wavion's EVP of sales and marketing, said “Wavion is proud to add this powerful VoIP capability to its base station product line. Wavion Wi-Fi end-to-end solution can now support also high quality VoIP services, which is a critical factor in business and residential connectivity in metro and rural deployments. This makes our Wi-Fi broadband solution ideal for providing high quality and cost effective business and residential connectivity in emerging markets for existing and new Wavion customers.”

Wavion Wireless Networks is transforming the unlicensed broadband wireless access market with powerful solutions based on beamforming technology.

Featuring the WBS omni-direction and sector base stations, which operate at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz, Wavion provides end-to-end solutions including access, backhaul, CPEs, NMS, service provisioning and billing.

With improved coverage and greater capacity, Wavion's solutions enable service providers, communities and enterprises to deliver high quality service in urban and rural applications while reducing CAPEX and OPEX (News - Alert) by more than 50 percent.
