Telecommunications Expanding to Sectors of Business Industry

By Kelly McGuire, TMCnet Editor

With telecommunications expanding to all sectors - including small and medium sized businesses - all facets of the business are now finding benefit from communications technology.

Recently, ChannelVission’s Vice President, Jeff Shelmire, discussed with TMC’s (News - Alert) CEO Rich Tehrani (in an interview printed in full below) the ways in which their services attract and aid clients.

Shelmire – who is attending ITEXPO West, to be held Sept. 1 to 3 in Los Angeles – also discussed the company’s involvement in the ITEXPO DealCenter.

In such an influential market, Shelmire believes the $787 billion economic stimulus package has the potential to drive the information highway, if the right environments, such as schools and government offices are upgraded.

Shelmire also believes the private sector is the hub of economic growth in this market.

“The communications market grows based on business and consumer demand and need,” said Shelmire.

“The transfer of voice, data and video through the networks is critical for the transfer of information as well as communications,” said Shelmire. “ChannelVission is well prepared to help technology vendors take their products to market.”

The full exchange follows.

RT: How did you get involved in the communications technology industry?

JS: ChannelVission has a team of professionals who have over 20 years of telecommunications experience. We became involved in the telecom market with the growth of the Internet. Internet Protocols (IPs) that transfer voice, video and data through these networks of service providers like AT&T, Verizon (News - Alert) and Sprint are growing even more critical for the information highway and are critical requirements for connecting people in the 21st century.

RT: How does your company benefit from communications technology?

JS: The transfer of voice, data and video through the networks is critical for the transfer of information as well as communications. As governments across the globe are spending money on the information highway, ChannelVission is well prepared to help technology vendors take their products to market. This global market according to IDC (News - Alert) will be $20+B by 2010.

RT: What changes are you expecting in your tech budget next year? Why?

JS: We expect a tripling of our own responsibilities and therefore our needs and will be building towards our goal due to some recent successes as well as an expectation that the world is poised for an explosion in technology and communications over the next 10 years.

RT: President Obama has said the $787 billion economic stimulus package will help the economy this year. What do you think about that? In your view, how will that money impact the communications market, if at all?

JS: The economics stimulus package could help drive the information highway, if technology infrastructure in schools, government offices and other public places is upgraded. While there are some positive things which have come from the injection of government stimulus and programs in the past, it is the private sector which grows the economy. We believe that the communications market grows based on business and consumer demand and need.

RT: Following up on that, we’re now formally starting the process of broadband stimulus money allocation and spending. What do you think of that activity? What effect will broadband stimulus have on technology spending, if any?

JS: Broadband stimulus could have a direct impact on technology spending. Once the information highway is in place, private, public and government entities will spend money at the client level to take advantage of the new services. Also, new technology will have a ripple effect on IT investment and new product introduction, which will help the economy.

RT: One of the exciting opportunities we’re presenting attendees at this year’s show is a fast way to find and network with companies they’re interested in, through ITEXPO DealCenter. What, specifically, is bringing you to ITEXPO (News - Alert) West 2009? What kinds of companies or professionals do you want to meet?

JS: We are actually using DealCenter and finding it to be a fascinating application, thank you for that. Companies that are ChannelVission’s potential customers include -

-          Product oriented companies
-          Companies that need help in the front office space (marketing and sales)
-          Small and mid-size companies with potential to grow in North America and globally

RT: What specific products or services do you intend to research or select?

JS: ChannelVission is only selecting technology companies whose products offer high growth opportunity.  We also select companies to work with based upon our own ability to meet and exceed their expectations and are constantly working to grow our huge worldwide network.
