CA Integrates Products, Targets Cloud Management and Trouble Shooting

By Vivek Naik, TMCnet Contributor

CA reportedly announced that it combining CA Spectrum (News - Alert) Infrastructure Manager (SIM) r9.1, CA eHealth Performance Manager (eHPM) r 6.1.1, and CA Spectrum Automation Manager (SAM) to provide a single process life cycle management solution that delivers unified business service assurance and automation for environments such as physical, virtual server and network environments, databases, voice and unified communications systems, and other networked applications.

“CA’s support for VMware vSphere 4 and Cisco (News - Alert) Nexus 1000V will provide a unique, highly integrated, closed-loop approach to business service assurance and automation,” said Roger Pilc, Corporate senior Vice President and General Manager of Infrastructure Management and Automation Business Unit for CA (News - Alert).
Officials at the company also announced that all the three products will also be upgraded to support VMware vSphere 4 and the Cisco Nexus 1000V distributed virtual software switch, which is an integrated option in VMware vSphere 4, and will allow end IT administrative users to control the related environments via one user interface and within a unified information model.
“With the integration of the Cisco Nexus 1000V with VMware vSphere 4, the lines between physical and virtual network and systems management have blurred,” said Pilc.
Sources claim that although there appear a significant number of variables to stitch into a single comprehensible offering, the final solution can still deliver results and point out trouble shooting areas extremely quickly and without clogging bandwidth.
“Our solution will help customers achieve Lean IT by increasing IT operations productivity while improving service assurance, helping to reduce administrative overhead, and lowering total cost of ownership,” said Pilc.
The company claims that the integrated solution will help companies achieve maximum results for minimum IT cash investment, guarantee service contract execution, intelligently reduce the risk of IT work flow temporary stoppages and crashes, reduce waste, and uplift customer experience.
The new solution specifically targets the ever growing cloud computing environment and addresses customers’ demands to simplify complications that invariably accrue from different platforms and divergent standards.
“By supporting VMware vSphere 4 and Cisco’s Nexus 1000V, CA will be able to provide customers with a streamlined management solution for their cloud computing needs,” said Shekar Ayyar, Vice President of Infrastructure Alliances for VMware.
End users claim that CA SIM has assisted them achieve their claimed near 100 percent delivery rating for the last two years and it helped in managing the huge volumes of data traffic very effectively.
The latest CA eHPM is compliant with and provides core network performance management of carrier-class telecommunications tools such as the Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) 5620 SAM Element Management System that are used to deploy Alcatel 7450 and 7750 core switches.
It integrates with CA eHealth Traffic Accountant for network traffic and bandwidth management, and CA eHealth Database Performance Option (eHDPO) for multiple supplier quality metrics, and consolidation of network infrastructure.
The solution provides automated call related data filtering, storage and performance assessments for IP telephony applications, and therefore adds value by managing unified communications in addition to physical and virtual networks.
Both CA SIM and CA eHPM integrate with the CA eHDPO to manage the availability and performance of DB2 for Linux, UNIX, Windows, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase (News - Alert) databases.
“With its expanded scope of integrated physical and virtual management including new network systems, CA’s Spectrum and eHealth solutions will help accelerate the continued adoption of virtualization within corporate data centers,” said Ayyar.
CA said that a new tweak to the software will be an enhanced automated discovery of the integrated physical and virtual network and systems environment that will minimize manual efforts and help ensure an accurate understanding of the virtualized infrastructure.
