By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Looking to improve customer experiences and reduce costs, Andorra Telecom has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to upgrade its fixed line infrastructure with next generation IP capabilities.

By integrating its existing fixed line networks with a Voice over IP (VoIP) platform, Nokia (News - Alert) Siemens Networks will simplify Andorra Telecom’s current network architecture. With this, Andorra Telecom can enhance the quality of services offered to subscribers. Allowing Andorra Telecom to introduce new services in a simple and cost effective way, this agreement also signifies Andorra Telecom’s first step towards all IP network.

Nokia Siemens (News - Alert) Networks will implement a Next Generation Network softswitching solution for Andorra Telecom, which will come with a related management system. According to the agreement, Nokia Siemens Networks (News - Alert) will also provide consulting and system integration services to Andorra Telecom.

“This upgrade helps Andorra Telecom address important challenges today, while providing the option to explore a whole new range of opportunities in the future,” said João Picoito, Head of South West Europe at Nokia Siemens Networks. “It is a great example of how traditional telecommunications businesses can prepare for the future, with some simple technology investments today.”

Companies in the telecom sector are increasingly looking to offer and products for the everyday needs of the customers. This will simply mean more business and reach for these companies. If the goal is to reach customers by catering to their everyday needs, then the companies must operate with a smooth network and reduced prices. Companies such as Andorra Telecom invest in their network integration and upgrade to satisfy these requirements.

Recently, Nokia Siemens Networks undertook an initiative for Singapore-based mobile operator MobileOne (M1) to add Internet protocol (IP) capabilities to its 2G network. With this upgrade, service providers expect to deliver a better customer experience, roll out high speed mobile broadband services, prepare for future growth at minimal costs, and a reduced carbon footprint. According to M1, the upgrade to an IP network is an important step for their move towards long term evolution (LTE (News - Alert)).
