Mindspeed Ships Comcerto VoIP Processors

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Mindspeed Technologies (News - Alert), a provider of semiconductor networking solutions, announced that its Comcerto Series voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) processors will be shipped into ZTE (News - Alert) Corporation’s optical access networking equipment.

ZTE Corporation’s optical access networks deliver voice and complicated broadband services to multi-tenant dwellings and office buildings, which feature significantly lower capital and operating expenses than legacy voice networks.

According to Mindspeed, its Comcerto Series of multi-core VoIP processors and carrier-class media stream processing software mainly delivers comprehensive VoIP media gateway solution with integrated signaling and control processing for next-generation network carrier and enterprise applications.

Mindspeed’s Comcerto Series processors feature a rich set of interfaces, voice codec options and packet-processing. These features facilitate manufacturers to integrate VoIP-enabled T1/E1 and plain-old telephone service (POTS) gateway functions quickly and cost-effectively, into a wide-range of carrier and enterprise access equipment.

Shou Qingliang, product general manager of ZTE, said, "The integration, scalability and modularity of the Comcerto processor line allow ZTE to add media gateway functions to a variety of equipment with minimal redesign effort."

Tom Medrek, senior vice president and general manager of Mindspeed's multiservice access business unit, said, "We are pleased to supply ZTE with our complete Comcerto VoIP processing solutions shipping in their optical access networking equipment today."

According to Mindspeed, its Comcerto devices are available in a wide-array of channel densities and common packages. This facilitates customers to develop lower-density systems that are well suited for remotely-deployed access equipment. Customers can also develop higher-density systems that can support thousands of channels for core network applications, while offering a common set of features and capabilities.

Mindspeed incorporates three key product families that include: high-performance analog transmission and switching solutions; multiservice access products, which are designed to support voice and data services across wireline and wireless networks; and WAN communications solutions that includes T/E carrier physical-layer and link-layer devices and as well as ATM/MPLS network processors.

Mindspeed's products are used in network infrastructure equipment, including voice and media gateways, high-speed routers, switches, access multiplexers, cross-connect systems, add-drop multiplexers and digital loop carrier equipment.

ZTE Corporation is China's telecommunications manufacturer and wireless solutions provider.
