BT Enhances Deployment of Services Using Mu Dynamic's Service Analyzer

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Mu Dynamics is teaming up with BT (News - Alert), a leading global provider of network IT communications solutions,  to support the evaluation and testing of proposed services on the UK’s Defense Fixed Telecommunications Service (DFTS) network.

Mu Dynamics, a pioneer in helping network operators and their vendors eliminate downtime through proactive service assurance, will supply its Mu-4000 Service Analyzer to provide systematic ability to quicken the reliable deployment of new services from initial vendor and equipment evaluation through systems integration and testing.

“With Mu’s Service Analyzer we are able to baseline the reliability of every vendor and potential system prior to making a purchase decision—proactively detecting any problems that could lead to disruption or downtime in our production networks,” said  Matt Graff, BT’s defense account manager.

The Mu-4000 Service Analyzer will support the evaluation and testing of proposed services on the UK’s DFTS network, according to Graff.

“The automated analysis performed by the Mu-4000 is far more comprehensive than any manual process or point product solution we have evaluated to date, and this will be critical to BT as we implement our next generation of real-time network infrastructure and services,” said Graff.

BT first began operating the DFTS network in 1997 and its contract was later renewed in 2005 and runs through 2012.  The network supports a broad range of services to the 230,000 users at the Ministry of Defense. That organization places more than 750,000 VPN calls a day and send two million e-mails per week through the DFTS EGS (Enterprise Gateway (News - Alert) Service). Under the MOD’s Defense Modernization Program, BT is in the process of introducing a new core network which aims to enhance services while reducing tariffs paid by the MOD.

“Network operators like BT are vigilantly pursuing comprehensive and proactive service assurance programs by gaining the upper hand on the increased complexity of today’s converged IP networks,” said Adam Stein (News - Alert), vice president of marketing at Mu. “The Mu Service Analyzer is purpose-built to satisfy increasing complexities.  This enables operators to accelerate the rollout of new and enhanced VoIP, IPTV (News - Alert) and IMS architecture-based services, while ensuring any NGN service delivers the high levels of availability and reliability needed to maintain customer satisfaction and reduce churn.”

Mark your calendars for INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO — the biggest and most comprehensive IP communications event of the year.  ITEXPO (News - Alert) (News - Alert) will take place in Los Angeles, California, September 16-18, 2008, featuring three valuable days of exhibits, conferences, and networking opportunities you can’t afford to miss.
