OCN Launches High-Speed Mobile Internet Service in Japan

OCN, Internet service provider in Japan operated by NTT Communications, has launched OCN High-speed Mobile EM, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service for high-speed mobile Internet. The service was launched in partnership with eAccess Ltd., a broadband IP communication company.

 

This service is based on High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), a 3G (third generation) mobile telephony communications protocol that enables subscribers to obtain broadband-quality internet access anywhere with maximum downlink speed of 7.2 Mbps and maximum uplink speed of 384 kbps.

 

Since its establishment in 1999, eAccess Ltd. is focused in operating ADSL wholesale in Japan. Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission.

 

eAccess leases out NTT's telephone lines, and wholesales the ADSL lines to Internet service providers (ISPs). It also offers high speed mobile broadband service.

 

NTT Com will provide one-stop service — from registration and billing to customer support — for OCN High-speed Mobile EM. It will also rent data cards, which allow subscribers to save on installation costs.

 

NTT Com is the wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation. NTT Com delivers voice, data and IP services to customers around the world.

 

The company's extensive global infrastructure include Arcstar private networks and a Tier 1 IP backbone (connected with ISPs worldwide), both reaching more than 150 countries, as well as secure data centers in Asia, North America and Europe.

 

The new service, OCN High-speed Mobile EM will be offered at a flat-rate connection fee.
