MDI Security Systems Intros New PointGuard Xtreme IP-Based Access Control Solution

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

MDI (News - Alert) Security Systems has launched its new PointGuard Xtreme IP-based access control software and hardware. Designed in partnership with Security Dealers and IT Integrators, PointGuard Xtreme is a cost-effective and scalable system that meets universal requirements and security budgets for organizations of all sizes.

The baseline product can easily expand from 2 readers to 512 readers and for larger system requirements, it offers a large number of enterprise-level modular software plug-ins (including HSPD-12 for Government) and a seamless upgrade path for up to 16,384 readers. According to a press release, the PointGuard Xtreme is easy to install, manage, train and use. MDI explains that the comprehensive system training can be accomplished in under one day and will be available online.

The company is providing a bundled turn-key access control package: Ready-Kit, by using a single part number for system configurations between 2 and 12 doors. The customers will get these kits pre-wired, pre-configured and ready to install and use, which will significantly reduce the preparation, installation, troubleshooting and programming time for the integrator.

Built on MDI’s award-winning ONE Unified Technology platform, PointGuard Xtreme’s open architecture boast a design that empowers seamless expansion of the system from a single door basic access control product into an enterprise command and control application.

Because PointGuard Xtreme has integrated with all five series of Mercury Security access control panels (SCP, SCP-C, SCP-E, SCP-EP2500 and SCP-EP1502) it gains immediate market adoption and decrease the field hardware configuration learning curve. Mercury allows PointGuard Xtreme to offer multiple communication channels which include serial (single and multi-drop), dial up and Ethernet IP communication.
