Global Crossing Intros Ready-Access Video

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Global Crossing today introduced Ready-Access Video, a service that bundles on-demand video and Web conferencing into a single application.

The videoconferencing and Web conferencing features of the new service combined will allow users to display presentations and high-quality video in a single-screen.

Ready-Access Video's users have real-time control of content. Users participating in a meeting can connect to a discussion via a standard videoconferencing system by phone and the Web, or by watching a full video stream in their PCs. The service supports on-demand multi-point video bridging, integrated recording, streaming and broadcasting, Web-based presentations and archiving.

"Ready-Access Video is a powerful new collaboration tool for enterprises and makes Global Crossing's portfolio of services even more useful to them," said Global Crossing's chief marketing officer Anthony Christie in a statement. "It employs the efficiencies of a converged IP network to deliver an unbeatable combination convenience, cost-efficiency and improved employee productivity."

Global Crossing teamed up with IP technologies provider Applied Global Technologies (AGT) to introduce the new service. The service also features a reservationless Personal Identification Number (PIN) system, which enables users to start videoconferences as quick as initiating Ready-Access audio conferences.

Today's news comes on the heels of Global Crossing introducing the VoIP Professional Services suite, which extended an enhanced agreement with Avaya (News - Alert) earlier this month.

The new set of services includes technical support, transition management and managed solutions. Common service bundles may include network readiness assessment and design, network integration and implementation, and managed VoIP PBX (News - Alert) services. Global Crossing's partnership with Avaya will also allow Global Crossing to resell Avaya's IP telephony applications, systems and services as part of a complete VoIP-based offering.
