Acme Packet Makes Trusted Unified Communications a Reality for Hanjin Group

BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Acme Packet(R) (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced that Uniconverse Co. Ltd., the IT services company of the Hanjin Group, one of the world's leading transportation conglomerates, is using Acme Packet Net-Net(R) session border controllers (SBCs) to deliver trusted, first-class IP interactive communications across its enterprise networks. Acme Packet's SBCs will support unified communications (UC) to Hanjin Group companies by interconnecting branch offices and seamlessly integrating sites and employees worldwide.

Uniconverse provides internal, converged communications services such as voice, email, presence and collaboration to Hanjin Group's Korean companies, including Korean Air. Acme Packet's SBCs are deployed at Uniconverse's data centers in Seoul, with additional deployments planned as the company continues its transition from traditional telephony to an all IP-based system. The Net-Net SBCs support Uniconverse's deployment of the Microsoft(R) Solution for Enhanced VoIP Services which is integrated with Sylantro's Synergy(R) Multiplay Application Feature Server for voice-enabled communication and collaboration services. Uniconverse has launched this UC application at Korean Air and expects to be providing commercial service to business users by the end of the first half of 2008.

Acme Packet's Net-SAFE(R) architecture with dynamic trust management provides robust security for Uniconverse's VoIP infrastructure, granting all corporate branches full utilization of its next-generation IP communications services. The Net-Net SBCs protect internal network resources from DoS/DDoS attacks using access control, topology hiding and signaling rate limiting. Acme Packet maximizes Uniconverse's application reach by providing hosted NAT traversal for Internet-connected offices and enables VoIP peering via service provider-connected SIP trunks. The Net-Net SBCs provide cost optimization by monitoring SIP sessions to determine call activity and reduce incorrect accounting due to abnormal call events.

"As the sole IT provider to one of the largest corporations in Korea, its imperative that we introduce new, innovative communications in a secure, rapid and cost-effective manner," explained Yong-Seung Hwang, managing director for Uniconverse. "With Acme Packet's SBCs, we are able to bring the next generation of IP interactive communications to the Hanjin Group with the confidence that we can control and protect our substantial investment in VoIP."

"Uniconverse realizes that unified communications is the next phase of enterprise communications and collaboration," explained Seamus Hourihan, Acme Packet's vice president of marketing and product management. "Acme Packet's Net-Net session border controllers ensure stable, trusted connectivity within the enterprise, allowing Uniconverse to make UC a reality for Hanjin."
