Dedic invests US$2mn in call center modernization

(BNamericas.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Brazilian call center company Dedic has invested US$2mn in the first phase of a customer call center modernization project in the city of Campinas in So Paulo state, Dedic said in a statement.

Dedic, which is controlled by Portugal Telecom (NYSE: PT), is working with Canadian equipment supplier Nortel Networks(NYSE: NT) and its channel partner Wittel, to extend the center by up to 1,000 new positions.

Nortel Networks and Wittel will also implement a new IP network to offer data services such as email and internet chat services.

Dedic has been trying to diversify its services and penetrate new markets, Dedic's president Miguel Cui Filho was recently reported as saying by local newspapers.

The big challenge for call centers is to diversify, to increase value and profitability, according to Cui Filho.

Dedic said that the network will be installed quickly and without disruptions to its existing customers.
