Looking to extend their iPod touch device beyond just a great iPod, to become "the world's best Wi-Fi mobile device," Apple ( News - Alert) announced today new software upgrades including new mobile applications and enhanced features for users entertainment needs.
As part of the announcement, made today during Macworld conference in San Francisco, Apple said it will add a Mail application, a rich HTML email client for most POP3 and IMAP mail services to the iPod touch as well as a Maps application that offers the ability to automatically find locations and get directions as well as view real-time traffic conditions and map and satellite views of street names.
Apple has also said they added Stocks and Weather applications for live up to the minute reports at user's fingertips and a Notes application that makes it possible to jot down information using the intelligent keyboard while on the go.
The new software upgrade will also feature the ability to watch iTunes Movie Rentals on a users iPod touch as well as the ability to move back or ahead through movie chapters, view subtitles and change the language when available.
A new Web Clips feature announced as part of the upgrade will also allow users to create custom icons on their home screen for their most visited websites and now users can customize their home screen, re-arranging icons and choosing up to nine different home screens to flick between.
