Pangea Communications Breaks New International Ground
Pangea Communications, a global Internet fax network, has
announced their expansion into new international markets by offering
Internet telephony software, worldwide routing infrastructure, and global
settlement services. Pangea is partnering with service providers to
increase its presence to 60 POPs worldwide. The company has granted
operator licenses to independent fax service providers in the Caribbean,
Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. These agreements are
significant as they bring the cost efficiency of Internet fax to countries
where it was formerly unavailable due to government restrictions. A single
provider in a remote location can now instantaneously gain a worldwide
presence through the Pangea network. Newly-signed Pangea partner Gerry's
Information Technology (Pvt.) Ltd. in Pakistan recently received the first
ever fax store and forward service license in the history of that country.

Blue Wave Systems Enhances ComStruct for V-Commerce
Blue Wave Systems has extended the functionality of its ComStruct
CPCI/C6400F DSP resource board, allowing it to be used for enhanced
voice-enabled services. By doubling the external memory per DSP on the
board, the CPCI/C6400F can now handle larger vocabulary applications,
including voice-activated navigation within Web access, or v-commerce. In
a CPCI/C6400F-based system, single conditioning and speech recognition are
performed locally on the DSP, leaving the host microprocessor free to
control and manage the platform. Also, distributing the calls over a
number of boards removes the single point of failure, making ComStruct
building blocks easier to scale up and more suitable for high-density
carrier-grade applications. The ComStruct CPCI/C6400F design now provides
the capability for 32 Mb of external SDRAM per processor. ComStruct is a
communications processing solution for the development and deployment of
high-density wireless and wireline technology within the telecommunication
infrastructure.

Tone Software Corporation Introduces ReliaTel
Tone Software Corporation has introduced ReliaTel, a new
management tool that enables telecommunications departments to monitor and
control the activity of all voice devices and automatically receive alarms
and alerts of potential problems at any location through a range of
different medias, including a Java graphical display of the entire voice
environment. Because it recognizes and reports potential failures as they
develop, the program allows the administrator to proactively intercept
problems and assure continuous and uninterrupted voice network service. It
is not dependent on a network connection or a device-specific protocol, so
it can effectively operate with a wide variety of different devices from
different manufacturers. The software can also be used to audit
performance levels of service providers. ReliaTel logs all messages and
alarms via STEPAR (Switch Trend Evaluation Performance and Reporting), a
Windows NT-based application that uses pre-configured formats to provide
summarized activity reports from all monitored systems.

Integral Access Intros IP/ MPLS-Based Access System
Integral Access has announced enhanced DSL capabilities for the
PurePacket platform. PurePacket is the first packet-based multi-service
access system that brings Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and
routing intelligence to DSL access networks. By combining the
functionality of a voice gateway, DSL Access Multiplexer, Digital Loop
Carrier, and Digital Cross Connect in one platform, PurePacket allows
network operators to deploy a single IP-based access network for
delivering all services over DSL access lines. PurePacket supports both
the Media Gateway Control Protocol and GR-303 standards, allowing carriers
to hand off DSL voice calls to new generation soft switches and legacy
circuit switches. The complete access network solution is composed of
PurePacket Outburst (customer premise equipment for small to medium
business and SOHO environments), PurePacket Node (central office
aggregation devices for central office, co-locations, POPs, and
multi-dwelling units), and PurePacket OMS (for network control and service
management).

AT&T Labs Trials Netergy's Technology, Service
Offerings
Netergy Networks has announced that AT&T Labs will trial a
wireless home networking service with Netergy's VoIP technology and
service support offerings in order to explore the performance of
next-generation QoS-based multimedia over a local cable network. AT&T
Labs will use IP Network Services, including the Hosted iPBX and Unified
Messaging, and the open Service Creation Environment. Also, AT&T Labs
will work with Netergy to prototype an IEEE 802.11 phone using Netergy's
Network Appliances Technology Audacity-T2 Processor, a
"cordless" telephone that seamlessly interfaces with a cable
environment. The ability to provide telephony services over a cable
network using Netergy's technology will enrich the local service landscape
by offering trial SOHO and residential users sophisticated telephone
features and services while simultaneously supporting wireless
convenience.
