Reva Systems, a RFID infrastructure provider, has announced that its Tag Acquisition Processor (News - Alert), or “TAP” product family, has been selected as a RFID infrastructure solution by Universal Postal Union also known as UPU for an international deployment.

The company’s Global Monitoring System or, GMS (News - Alert), will be implemented initially with 21 member countries deploying RFID for measuring mail-service quality among participating countries. By next year the number of countries included in the project is expected to go to 100.

 

GMS will be launched this month with the insertion of RFID tags into test letters for measuring the time taken to deliver the mail. The data generated will be sent to the central information management system which is operated by the UPU’s International Bureau.

Headquartered in Berne, Switzerland the UPU will lay down the rules for international mail exchanges. This is expected to ensure an accessible and efficient global network of modern postal communications.

The standards-based GMS architecture employs UHF Gen2 tags which can be automatically read by portals at exchange offices worldwide.

“We have already been using the Reva Systems (News - Alert) TAP in production with other postal customers since 2008,” stated Joan Pons, Managing Director at AIDA Center. “So Reva’s TAP was the platform of choice when we responded to the UPU tender. Along with its core infrastructure features, the TAP product line also allows us to rapidly develop and host our own value-added capabilities to meet the UPU’s specific requirements.”
