NetLogix Selects Motorola's Mesh WAN Solution for the City of Maywood

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Wireless and video systems integrator and member of Motorola's (News - Alert) wireless broadband channel program, NetLogix, has announced it deployed Motorola's mesh wide area network or, “MWAN” offering  for the City of Maywood, California in a bid to protect the public and to provide city-wide free high-speed Wi-Fi Internet access to businesses and residents.

Specifically, Netlogix hasdeployed Motorola's MWAN 4300 nodes which run a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi radio (802.11 b/g) for client access and node-to-node mesh links, and an additional 4.9 GHz licensed band (802.11a) radio for public safety applications like video surveillance in Maywood.

The WAN 4300 nodes leverage Motorola's field proven MeshConnex routing engine, creating a highly reliable self-forming, self-healing wireless broadband network that blankets the city.

Thomas Martin, city councilman for the city of Maywood, said the deployment of Maywood's citywide mesh network shows how cities like theirs can leverage the power of a single wireless broadband network for official business and public access.

Specifically, the latest deployment will help Maywood Police Department to take advantage of the network for video surveillance to deter criminal activity, as it helps them to respond to incidents more quickly, and provide better situational awareness. In addition, Maywood and NetLogix are also planning to collaborate with application developers to introduce new solutions to provide mobile data access for police cars.

Eric DaVersa, vice president of business development, NetLogix said that, the City of Maywood is a prime example of a successful approach to municipal wireless. He said that, the new network delivers economic development through free business and residential broadband Internet access while delivering secure and reliable public safety networking and communications.
