The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has announced that it has published TIA-946-A, Enhanced Cryptographic Algorithms. As the demand for encryption of personal information shared electronically continues to rise, such information will be valuable to members and associating businesses.
The TIA, an innovator in advocacy, standards development, business development and intelligence for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, has recognized the growing integration of wireless solutions and the increased need for more secure environments.
Subscribers are increasingly relying on wireless communication for sophisticated services, including banking and other sensitive multimedia applications. As such, network operators must protect the security and confidentiality of voice and data communications over wireless channels.
This latest report details enhanced cryptographic algorithms, providing procedures to enhance the security of mutual authentication between mobile stations and base stations, subscriber message encryption, and key agreement within wireless equipment over CDMA 3G networks.
TIA-946-A was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA Engineering Committee TR-45, Mobile and Personal Communications Systems.

The TIA represents the global information and communications technology (ICT) industry through standards development, advocacy, tradeshows, business opportunities, market intelligence and worldwide environmental regulatory analysis.
The organization aims to enhance the business environment for broadband, mobile wireless, information technology, networks, cable, satellite and unified communications. Members’ products and services empower voice, video and data communications in every industry and market, including healthcare, education, security, public safety, transportation, government, the military, the environment and entertainment.
TIA membership is designed to enhance the ability of companies to prepare for the future of communications. TIA brings people and businesses together by helping the industry overcome technical and political barriers to communications.
This latest publication will provide the necessary guidelines for Enhanced Cryptographic Procedures for Security Services. By following such standards, member companies can ensure that they have protected their customers and their liability when sharing or transferring personal data or other information.
TR-45 member companies include such providers as Alcatel-Lucent, Apple, AT&T ( News - Alert), Cingular Wireless, Cisco Systems, Inc., Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc., Gemalto Inc., Hitachi Telecom (USA) Inc., Huawei Technologies USA, Intel Corporation, Kyocera ( News - Alert) Telecomm Research Corp., LG InfoComm U.S.A., Inc., Motorola, Inc., Nokia Inc., Nokia Siemens Networks, Research In Motion Corporation, Samsung Electronics, Samsung Telecom America, Spirent Communications, Sprint ( News - Alert) Nextel, SS8 Networks, Inc., Tatara Systems, Telcordia Technologies, TeleCommunication Systems, Inc., Telus Mobility, Texas Instruments, Inc, US Cellular, UTStarcom, Inc., Verizon Wireless, , ZTE ( News - Alert) San Diego, ZTE USA Inc., and more.
