Alert) Solutions, the U.S.-based machine-to-machine (M2M) mobile technology arm of Telit Communications, announced that Trackn/Enfotrace will incorporate its cellular M2M technology into their line of location based service (LBS) applications beginning in October 2008.
Southern California based-Trackn/Enfotrace is a provider of remote vehicle and asset tracking products. The company designs, manufactures and markets GPS-based asset location products and services that serve the LBS security and asset management markets.
The Enfotrace application utilizes the Telit module to establish a two-way flow of information through a digital cellular network. Over this network, the device transmits safety alerts, vehicle diagnostics, starter disable, door lock control, data logging and messaging.
The Telit module also offers durability, which is “ideal” for Enfotrace’s target industries of consumer and commercial vehicles, rental fleets, heavy machinery, boats and recreational vehicles.
Telit’s GE864-QUAD module was a “perfect fit” for Enfotrace’s thin, compact design similar in size to a credit card since it measures 30 x 30 x 2.9 mm and weighs seven grams, according to company officials.
“We upgraded to a Telit module, because it offers reliability, efficiency and a compact form-factor that is ideal for our tracking application,” said Bill Northrup of Trackn/Enfotrace. “Telit’s module also features QUAD-band functionally enabling us to expand our service offering and deploy internationally.”
The Trackn/Enfotrace online component includes functionality for order management, billing, online payments, and device activation in addition to vehicle tracking data. Additionally, the application also utilizes Telit Firmware Update Service, which offers remote over-the-air firmware upgrades.
“Trackn/Enfotrace offers an innovative tracking solution ideal for a wide range of users, from parents tracking their teenagers’ driving habits to a large corporation managing a vehicle fleet of thousands,” said Joe Braga, vice president for Americas at Telit Wireless Solutions.
Telit develops, manufactures and markets GSM/GPRS, UMTS/HSDPA and CDMA/EVDO enterprise communication modules for M2M applications. Last month, company announced the appointment of six wireless industry experts to guide the launch of the company’s operations and sales force in South America
