T-Mobile, Ericsson Partner for Enterprise 5G Laptop Connectivity and Security

By Stefania Viscusi March 07, 2024

T-Mobile announced that it was chosen by Ericsson as the 5G provider for the initial phase of its Enterprise Virtual Cellular Network (EVCN) pilot in the U.S. With an evolving workforce landscape today and an estimated 32.6 million Americans expected to work remotely by 2025 (approximately 22% of the workforce), the demand for reliable and secure connectivity solutions has never been greater than it is now.

Working remotely poses risks to network reliability and security. Traditional VPN configurations and public Wi-Fi networks can also create vulnerabilities to cyberattacks. With the 5G laptops, employees connect to corporate resources with ease and without all the risks.

As per the agreement, T-Mobile (News - Alert) will provide connectivity alongside Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) capabilities for employees using 5G laptops. The EVCN service, managed by IT teams within enterprises, creates a dedicated 5G virtual network to ensure a dependable and secure corporate connection for remote workers.

Not only will this simplify the remote work experience by automating eSIM profile management, but it will also give enterprises control over ordering, downloading, and activating eSIM profiles on 5G laptops. Now organizations can maintain their own virtual cellular network to ensure seamless connectivity for employees.

"Enterprise IT and security teams are overwhelmed with a growing number of cyber threats from various vectors. The mobile workforce should not be an additional concern," said Mishka Dehghan, SVP, of Strategy, Product, and Solutions Engineering, T-Mobile Business Group. "We’re thrilled to support Ericsson’s (News - Alert) EVCN pilot as it’s more critical than ever for businesses and organizations to embrace the latest 5G and SASE innovations to help improve the protection of their networks, applications, and information as well as the productivity of their people."

T-Mobile’s SASE solution, powered by T-SIMsecure, is key to Ericsson’s EVCN offering. As a SIM-based SASE solution, it leverages the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) for clientless authentication. So 5G laptops connected to T-Mobile’s network are automatically authorized through the eSIM, streamlining IT and security processes. Whether employees are at home, in a coffee shop, or on the move, the combination of T-Mobile’s 5G network and SASE capabilities ensures a seamless experience.

“We are excited to be working with T-Mobile to deliver 5G laptops to our employees in the U.S. EVCN provides eSIM management at scale and enables employees to securely connect their 5G laptops to the Ericsson corporate network from virtually anywhere in the U.S.,” said Mats Hultin, CIO and Head of Ericsson Enterprise IT. “This allows us to deliver the best possible employee experience and increases productivity of our hybrid workforce. Together, we are reimagining a new reality for hybrid working, with 5G unlocking new possibilities for Enterprises to shape a sustainable future through digitalization and infra light IT architectures.”
