Dell'Oro: BelAir Leads WLAN Service Provider Segment
By Vivek Naik, TMCnet Contributor
Dell’Oro’s latest report, “Wireless LAN Quarterly Report: Q4 2008” has found that BelAir Networks was number one in the WLAN service provider segment for the sixth successive quarter and that the company was able to capture nearly double the market share of its closest rival in Q408.
BelAir attributed this sustained growth to its success in installation, testing, setting up and handing of significant Wi-Fi projects for major Cable Operators, Telecommunications Service Providers, Safety, Security and Defense markets.
The company also said that its global presence coupled with widespread and diverse service offerings such as high-performance video surveillance networks, enterprise level WLAN and public Wi-Fi hotspot solutions have also contributed to its growth since customers find almost every type of related solution available with a single vendor.
In addition, their successful deployments of solutions in high profile locations such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the Dolphin Stadium in Miami and world-class hospitality resorts like the Westin and the Sheraton, made for perfect marketing vehicles which have helped to elevate it to a preferred vendor status.
According to Dell’ (News - Alert)Oro’s report, one differentiating factor that gives BelAir an edge over other vendors is its expertise and proven success in Wi-Fi related deployments.
"Large broadband service providers are offering free Wi-Fi service as a complement to their existing Internet subscribers,” said Ben Kwan, Analyst at Dell'Oro Group. “We believe these new municipal Wi-Fi applications will be a key driver of growth in the SP WLAN market throughout 2009.”
Service providers have recognized a significant market in Multi Dwelling Units such as apartment blocks and condominiums since people are moving away from single ownership premises and migrating to clustered units, TMC (News - Alert) reported. The closeness of each dwelling drastically cuts down on overhead and installation costs, increases the profit margins and guarantees long term market capture, survival and sustenance.
In terms of large scale proximity installations, service providers are also targeting hospitality, education and healthcare institutions for hotzone and Wi-Fi hotspot deployment. This trend together with BelAir’s proven rapid and niche deployment ability adds to the preferred vendor status and appears to hint at significant business contracts in the pipeline that may help it sustain leadership position.
“BelAir Networks enables service providers to cost-effectively deploy mobile broadband wireless networks that help them grow their business quickly,” said Bernard Herscovich, President and CEO, BelAir.
“BelAir Networks products integrate seamlessly with the service provider’s network and back office infrastructure, reducing CapEx while facilitating service provisioning and bundling.”
