Research: Growth of Telecommunication Services Continues for Wireless and Cable Providers
By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor
In their latest research report, "Telecommunications Service Providers Subscriber Growth, 2007-2012," Insight Research has uncovered that telecommunications services have continued strong growth throughout 2007, despite all of the industry consolidation and changes in the industry service provider segment.
The study forecasts subscriber growth through 2012 and presents the subscriber base for the wireless carriers, CLECs, dominant phone companies, regional phone companies, and cable company segments.
Of these segments, wireless carriers ranked highest for continually adding new subscribers.
"The wireless companies will be adding new subscribers at a rate nearly double the overall telecommunications subscriber growth rate," the research found.
The research also found that this increased subscriber rate is in part a result of the rapid adoption of 3G
.
Also among the top providers of telecommunications services are cable companies, who are adding telephone subscribers at fast rate, while the number of cable TV subscribers declines. According to the research, these cable companies are adding telephone subscribers at a much faster rate than ILECs will add TV customers to their networks.
Insight Research president Robert Rosenberg commented, "The number of subscribers signing up for telecommunications services continues to grow, and at a rate comparable to growth of the GDP, which means the growth is sustainable. However, the growth in subscribers we are seeing is by no means evenly divided. There are real winners and losers among the segments, though the wireless and cable providers show the best prospects for continuing to add subscribers over time."
