Nuance Completes Tegic Communications Acquisition

Further expanding their presence in the mobile industry, Nuance (News - Alert) Communications announced today the close of their acquisition of Tegic Communications Inc.

 

Tegic is a developer of embedded software for mobile devices and a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Warner Inc.'s AOL (News - Alert) LLC.

 

With this acquisition, announced back in June, Nuance will be able to further deliver on their promise to enhance the way people interact with mobile devices and provide consumers with more solutions for controlling features, accessing information and using the Web on their mobile devices.

 

Specifically, the companies' combined portfolios will make it possible to overcome the traditional keypad constraints of mobile devices so users can more conveniently utilize their mobile device.

 

According to a news release, "Tegic brings industry-leading T9 predictive text input software, which has shipped on more than 2.5 billion devices, its XT9 next-generation integrated text and touch input solution, and its soon-to-be-released, text-based search and discovery software to Nuance's portfolio of voice-enabled applications for device control, mobile search, email and text messaging."

 

In an earlier news release on the deal, Paul Ricci, chairman and CEO of Nuance commented, “Tegic shares our vision of delivering an integrated, superior and flexible user experience for today’s wireless subscribers. Together, we are poised to redefine the way people interact with their mobile devices, delivering a more convenient, simple way for consumers to control features and access information on their phones, and search and navigate the mobile Web.”
