Apple Component Suppliers Saying iTV Coming Mid-2012

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

The Apple TV, or iTV has long been rumored to be hitting the market sooner rather than later, but now companies that have been reportedly contracted to make the components for these televisions are beginning to allow details to leak. Component makers are largely responsible for leaking out bits and pieces of what the iPhone (News - Alert) 4S would contain and look like, so in a world where Apple is usually pretty tight lipped about their products, those sources are usually the most reliable.

Of course, there already is a product that is currently called the Apple (News - Alert) TV, which is one of the reasons that there has been some real confusion about whether or not the computing giant would come out with a dedicated television as well. It appears that Apple is now moving full speed ahead with a television that can do everything the set top box can do, and a little bit more. One of the things that people have speculated on is the size of the screens for the new TV set.

Earlier rumors had the iTV coming in three different sizes, at 24-inches, 32-inches and 55-inches. According to Digitimes, which has sources inside the component industry, the actual sizes will be either 32 or 37-inches. Despite the fact that we may now know the sizes of the iTVs, there isn't a whole lot else concrete when it comes to what these new devices will bring.

According to sources inside the component makers, it also appears that they will be producing the components over the first quarter of 2012. This will allow the companies to meet Apple's schedule for release which would then come either in the second quarter or early in the third quarter of 2012. In other words, the iTVs would be made available just in time for the ramp up for the holiday season. One added tidbit is that it appears Apple will also launch another generation of the set top Apple TV devices. This is actually a solid business decision because it means those that do not want to invest in a new television set can still spend a bit of dough on the set top device.
