Android (News - Alert) users and Sling Media customers can now access TV content on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) devices or later.

Sling Media is the leading provider of video place shifting products and services for consumers and television service providers.

When connected to a Slingbox Solo or PRO-HD, customers can use their Android tablets to change channels, control their DCRs and watch TV shows anywhere they have an Internet connection over 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi.

Sling has already released SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPad and iPhone app for AT&T’s (News - Alert) WiFi network.

New features on the app include a remote control feature and a program guide to select channels, access the DVR and set up favorite channels. Both features are exact replicas of the devices at home, allowing the users to closely mimic the same experience they have from their couches at home.

The revamped program guide makes it easier to browse content choices while continuing to watch TV as well as changing channels and controlling DVR.

“A Slingbox is the perfect accessory to an Android tablet,” Raghu Tarra, senior vice president and general manager at Sling Media (News - Alert), said in a statement. “When combined with SlingPLayer, now anyone with an Android device can enjoy a beautiful, personalized TV experience anywhere in the world.”

The earlier released SlingPlayer app for Android phones will continue to work in “Compatibility Mode” on tablets. This version of the app streams from all Slingboxes but not at the higher-quality resolutions available on tablet devices.

The app is available is available on the Android Market for $29.99.

In related news, MOBIbucks, a provider of mobile payments and marketing solutions, announced the launch of what the company claims is “the industry’s first smart mobile banking app that works with any phone.”
