Oracle to Share Insight on InQuira Acquisition During Live Webcast

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Oracle (News - Alert) is ready to provide customers with a complete customer relationship management (CRM) solution, thanks to its recent acquisition of InQuira. The software giant will also extend to its customer base a knowledge management offering that is designed to integrate self-service support, online customer forums and agent-assisted CRM.

This MarketWatch announcement focused on Oracle’s heightened position in the customer service space. Oracle plans to communicate its product strategy for the combined Oracle and Inquira products in a webcast presentation scheduled for Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 11AM PST.

Oracle also plans to feature the combined solution at the upcoming OpenWorld event, scheduled for October 2-6, 2011 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. Experts will be on hand to provide further information, an overview of the solution and to share a replace of the webcast. Join the excitement at booth #W-126 and #W-127 Moscone West DEMOgrounds.

In other Oracle news, TMCnet recently reported that the company has emerged victorious in a charge against SAP (News - Alert) for data theft. It appears TomorrowNow, a shuttered subsidiary of SAP AG, will pay $20 million in fines for its connection with the theft. The company pleaded guilty to 11 counts of accessing computers without permission, and one count of copyright infringement in this case.

Charges have also been brought against Oracle, according to this TMCnet story. The Wall Street Journal reported that the software giant is under investigation by federal agencies for potentially violating federal anti-bribery laws, specifically the 1977 Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The specific transactions under investigation include sales of software to government agencies in Western and Central African countries.

Beyond its recent InQuira (News - Alert) acquisition, some are speculating that Oracle could pounce on HP in a future hostile takeover. This was the topic of a recent TMCnet piece by Ed Silverstein. Speculation apparently increased over the topic in late August after a New York Post story led to a 20 percent drop in HP’s stock price.

Apparently, investors were reacting negatively to news over HP’s planned acquisition of Autonomy (News - Alert) and its plans to move away from several key technology sectors. If successful, this could continue to keep HP in a vulnerable position.

On the lighter, side, Easti Energia, an Estonian energy company, has selected Oracle for its utilities customer care and billing. The company also implemented the Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management solution.
