Sprint Planning to Offer Unlimited Service Plan to iPhone 5 Users at Launch

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

There have been a massive amount of rumors around a device that hasn’t actually been confirmed as even being created yet. The iPhone (News - Alert) 5 might just be the worst kept secret in corporate America. The second worst kept secret appears to be that Sprint will be one of the carriers when the iPhone 5 is launched this October.

While Sprint (News - Alert) has not officially confirmed that they will indeed be carrying the iPhone 5, there have been plenty of signs that the rumors are true. Recently a memo was leaked from Sprint’s higher ups that basically told their employees that should they be asked flat out by customers if they were going to be carrying the world’s most popular smartphone they should simply answer with a “no comment.”

While this would not normally mean that the iPhone 5 is definitely coming to the company, the inability or unwillingness to flat out deny the rumors speaks volumes.

Now even more rumors are churning out with people who work for Sprint acknowledging that the company has a deal in place with Apple (News - Alert) for the latest version of the iPhone. Of course this would make the third cell-phone company that offers the iPhone and Sprint thinks it has a plan that would set itself apart from AT&T (News - Alert) and Verizon.

Sprint has had a problem competing with the big cell-phone providers and has actually lost money in 15 straight quarters now. The move to offer the iPhone 5 is definitely going to be a step in the right direction but that isn’t going to be enough on its own.

Sprint appears poised to be offering unlimited data for a flat fee, something that the other two companies that currently offer the iPhone don’t do. This could be the competitive edge that will put Sprint back in the black. More than that, offering something like this, considering all the different things that can be done with unlimited data might actually convince current AT&T and Verizon customers that they need to reevaluate their customers.

Of course neither Apple nor Sprint will confirm these rumors but they didn’t deny them either. Sprint’s unlimited voice and data service costs $99.99 a month.
