Apple’s (News
- Alert) announcement yesterday of the iPhone 5’s imminent release was met with mixed reactions from potential consumers. A poll conducted by CouponCodes4u.com surveyed Apple-owning Americans about their first impressions of the iPhone (News - Alert) 5’s promise, and whether or not they anticipated buying the new gadget. The study was meant to measure customers’ brand loyalty and overall satisfaction.
Most of those polled were already iPhone owners, with the remaining number fairly convinced that they might purchase their own iPhones in the future. While many of the people questioned by the study seemed to be interested in keeping up with the newest version of the iPhone, many were cautious with their enthusiasm for the iPhone 5, saying that they were waiting for more details like pricing and specifications to be released.

Additionally, the study revealed that more than half of consumers polled were underwhelmed by the iPhone 5’s release event. Many of those who were left unimpressed expressed opinions that the event did not seem complete without Steve Jobs (News
- Alert), the late Apple CEO.
In addition to feeling indifferent about the release itself, many of those polled said that they were disappointed by the new specs and design of the phone. Many people had concerns about the new model’s compatibility with other Apple devices, among other things.
There were some details of the new iPhone that impressed consumers, including the new panoramic camera and advanced FaceTime (News - Alert) options. Still, fewer than half polled said that they had plans to buy the phone upon its release, firm in their opinion that the new model lacked any real innovation. It’s possible that the release and new model were too hyped up to live up to the public’s expectations, but even so, the amount of iPhone devotees who are disappointed in the new model is surprising.
