Virtustream and SafeNet Team on Secure Mobile Cloud Access Solutions

By Laura Stotler, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Virtustream, Inc. and SafeNet (News - Alert) have teamed up to incorporate SafeNet's authentication solutions into Virtustream's xStream enterprise cloud platform. The agreement incorporates the SafeNet Authentication Manager into xStream to deliver secure cloud access from tablets and mobile devices through two-factor identity authentication.

The combined capabilities enable hybrid identity cloud model capabilities as well as centrally-managed authentication services. This extends the foundation for enterprise-level authentication, authorization and auditing on the xStream platform.

The xStream cloud solution uses the Virtustream µVM (Micro-VM) technology to offer efficiencies beyond traditional virtualization and enable a consumption-based pricing model. The xStream platform provides support for enterprise IT systems and gives organizations a robust, secure cloud environment that is built from the ground up for enterprise applications.

Customers may move both legacy and web-scale applications to the cloud using Virtustream's platform, enabling economic benefits as well as industry-leading application-level SLAs in a secure cloud environment that offers built-in data protection and disaster recovery.

That high level of security has been combined with SafeNet's data-centric approach, which focuses on the protection of high-value information throughout its lifecycle, from the data center to the cloud. The company has more than 25,000 customers ranging from enterprises to government agencies and protects and controls access to sensitive data, manages risk, ensures compliance and secures both virtual and cloud environments. Virtustream is a member of the SafeNet System Integrators and Alliance Partners as well, which enables the companies to work together on integrated solutions.

"Enterprises looking to deploy the cloud want both enterprise-grade performance and security, while still benefiting from the scalability and economics of multi-tenant virtualization technology," said Dr. Shaw Chuang, executive vice president of engineering at Virtustream. "Incorporating SafeNet's authentication platform brings another best-of-breed offering to our platform and lays the foundation for further extensive security capabilities."

"We're excited to have Virtustream leverage our data protection solutions to the xStream enterprise cloud," said Chen Arbel, director of business development at SafeNet. "SafeNet's Authentication Manager enables customers such as Virtustream to easily extend their security infrastructure to keep pace with new and emerging issues, ensuring that data remains protected, whether it is in the enterprise or in the public or private cloud."
