SeaChange Finalizes Purchase of Flashlight Engineering

SeaChangeis one of the world’s leading companies when it comes to multi-screen video software. Now the company has grown a bit stronger with the announcement that they have purchased all the assets and intellectual property of Flashlight Engineering and Consulting. Considering that Flashlight specializes in the designing and creation of software that are geared towards digital televisions and their set-top cable boxes. SeaChangeis giving the Portland-based Flashlight something more than money in return, as the company has agreed to create a business unit in Portland for the staff members of Flashlight. In addition, the CEO of Flashlight, Eric Miller (News - Alert) will immediately become the vice president of engineering for SeaChange.



SeaChange CFO Mike Bornak hailed his company’s acquisition of Flashlight by saying, “We welcome the highly talented Flashlight organization to our SeaChange team. This purchase of Flashlight assets is an example of the research and development investments we are making to accelerate the delivery of our next generation software solutions and develop new revenue streams.” 

It is clear that the SeaChange management team feels as though Flashlight can bring quite a bit of new advancements to their company’s software offerings. SeaChange’s CEO and general manager Shiva Patibanda said that Flashlight and SeaChange have both been on the frontlines of technological advances in the traditional television, DVD and IPTV (News - Alert) industries. Patibanda added that, ““Flashlight has worked across the spectrum of ITV software, from drivers to applications and from web services to set-top boxes and mobile devices. Every major cable operator in the U.S. is using software developed by Flashlight engineers, and their expertise ties in nicely with our software development and deployments with all major cable operators in the Americas and Europe.”

Members of both companies have said that the partnership will complement the skill sets of both companies and that the partnership will indeed mean that both groups will become stronger in this particular field.
