Testing for Optimal Performance and Threat Elimination: Spirent

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

If you aren’t sure if it is important to test your environment before you go live, Spirent may want to clarify that it is not only important; it is essential. The company recently attended Interop (News - Alert) 2011 and shared some insight with TMCnet.

In an interview captured in this video, Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) sat down with Jurrie van den Breekel, senior marketing manager for Spirent, considered one of the leading testing providers in the market.

At Interop 2011, the company launched a new line of hardware modules all centered around Spirent’s (News - Alert) testing capabilities. With the high level outages at Sony and Amazon, there is a vast need for testing solutions.

Breekel noted it is very important to not just test individual network elements, but also storage and applications holistically. The company presented key methods on how to do just that at Interop, providing the technology to do those tests.

There is a lot of interest in Spirent offerings and the timing of the show is perfect with the recent outages and break-ins on major networks lately. Enterprises are seeing a combination of denial of service attacks and specific attacks.

With the new modules, you can really do the high performance denial of service attack elimination and run a very specific threat database to spot those attacks. Under denial of service attacks everything performs differently and makes it much harder to identify threats. Spirent eliminates this challenge.

Now, Spirent is also focused on reemphasizing virtual products and is adding capability to test storage and LAN for a total cloud solution. The company has a test authoring and authorization platform for an automated suite with all testing capabilities.

When asked about competition in the market, Breekel shared, “There is always competition and Spirent feels very confident that with the new modules we offer higher performance and methodology that perform better in the market. Will continue to develop in the cloud market and will focus on mobile testing, with many developments focused on LTE (News - Alert).”
