Estes Valley, Colorado Recreation & Park District Website Receives 2017 Horizon Interactive Award
Estes Valley Recreation and Park District's (EVRPD) website
received a 2017 Horizon Interactive Award in the government agency
website category. The website was recognized for enriching lives with
quality recreation. This statement is the core of EVRPD's mission
statement, but wasn't obvious from its website. The Board of Directors
approved a website redesign with the goal of making it easier for
citizens to find what they need online so they could spend more time
offline-enjoying indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
The Horizon
Interactive Awards (HIA) are among the most prestigious awards in
the field of interactive and creative media. They recognize the best
websites, website design, interactive, videos, online advertising, print
media and mobile applications.
"Our tagline is 'absolutely recreation' and our citizens expect no less
from their online experience," said EVRPD Marketing and Communications
Manager, Dawn Wilson. "Our website is critical to our business. If it's
inconvenient for citizens to find information on classes they want, they
won't register for them. Our redesign resulted in a more responsive,
user-friendly experience."
Being more responsive also means being more transparent. EVRPD recently
opened the Estes Valley Community Center, a 70,000-square foot,
multi-generational destination. The website is continuing to serve as a
primary communication tool, reassuring citizens that the District is
being fiscally responsible with their tax dollars.
"Governments of all sizes and types are responding to the increasing
demand for digital services and information," said Colorado Interactive
(CI) President and General Manager, Fred Sargeson. "EVRPD has listened
to its citizens and transformed its website to being citizen-centric.
Its work has paid off with a Horizon Interactve Award."
The 2017 competition attracted entries from across the United States and
more than 16 countries. A volunteer panel of industry professionals
spanning multi-media, graphic design advertising and marketing reviewed
over 1,000 entries. The EVRPD website received the award due to its
outstanding achievement in interactive media production.
EVRPD turned to Colorado Interactive (CI) and the Statewide Internet
Portal Authority (SIPA) to produce its new website. CI provides digital
government services to state agencies, local governments and educational
entities through a contract with SIPA-the official internet portal
connecting the public with Colorado government. The partnership's
mission allows government leaders to focus on delivering on-demand,
digital government solutions without requests for proposals or the use
of tax appropriations. The CI/SIPA partnership has benefitted more than
60 special districts and educational organizations in Colorado.
