UnitedHealth Group to Support Use of Bundled Payments with Health Care Providers in Fee-for-Service Medicare
UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) today announced advancements in the
company's collaboration with individual doctors, health systems and
government as the use of bundled payment models expands in traditional
fee-for-service Medicare.
UnitedHealth Group aims to offer data and analytics, technology and care
coordination to support the bundled payment models of health care
providers, including those participating in the Centers for Medicare &
Medicaid Services' (CMS) Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced
(BPCI Advanced) program when BPCI Advanced launches later this year.
Bundled payment models set price and quality standards for certain
treatments, such as hip or major joint replacements, and reward
participating care providers who exceed the established standards. This
is a shift away from the common fee-for-service structure that pays care
providers for each treatment.
UnitedHealth Group's extensive experience using data and technology to
help coordinate care and improve health outcomes positions the company
as a strong partner for care providers participating in bundled payment
programs. This form of alue-based care is a benefit both for the people
needing treatment and the care providers delivering it, and UnitedHealth
Group is committed to finding even more ways to expand its use.
These efforts build on UnitedHealth Group's focus on value-based care
delivery, and analytics and payment innovation, including approximately
$64 billion in care provider reimbursements annually tied to a variety
of value-based care arrangements.
