Ex-Facebooker Launches World's First Video Social Network for Opinions - Wishfie

BENGALURU, January 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --

Ex-Facebooker Durgesh Kaushik returns to India to launch Wishfie, a video-first social media platform that empowers people to share their opinions using their phone's selfie camera

A team of ex-Facebook employees and NSITians have launched the world's first video social network focused on opinions - Wishfie, which aims to empower people to share their opinions on what's happening around the world. Within a few days of public beta launch, the app has crossed 20,000 registered members who have shared their opinions on wide range of topics including Donald Trump's H1B policies, Narendra Modi's performance as the PM, Padmavati Movie controversy Virat Kohli's team selection, life situations and relationships.

Facebook has selected Wishfie for its Facebook Start Program, offering $40,000 worth of benefits. The mobile app is now available on Android Play Store and iOS App Store. Wishfie is the only video platform that allows people to share their opinions anonymously.

"Our mission is to ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate in building the world of tomorrow. Ubiquitous Internet access is just the first step in that direction; giving people a platform to voice their opinions is even more important. That's why we decided to build Wishfie, which leverages the growing mobile and video adoption to empower people to share their opinions on anything that matters to them, in the simplest way possible," said Durgesh Kaushik, Wishfie's Co-founder and CEO.

Kaushik previously managed online marketing for Facebook's advertisin business in EMEA and APAC regions.

User Generated Video is the future of content. Adoption of apps like Bigo Live, Vine, Musical.ly, Snapchat etc. validates the trend. In fact, Facebook has predicted that by 2020, its newsfeed will be video-only.

"Wishfie is not a Q&A platform because it doesn't require right answers and certain level of expertise to participate. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, whether the world agrees with them or not. We are building a platform for common people because everyone's opinions matter." Kaushik added.

The co-founding team has the right mix of global experience and technology orientation. Kaushik has been a start-up advisor and mentor, recognized marketing leader with over 140K FB followers. He has worked in Europe, the US, Singapore, Brazil and India, where he scaled many global marketing programs. He was also a social networks researcher at University of California and New York University.

Wishfie's Co-founder Akshay Pruthi represents the millennial crowd, which is Wishfie's first target audience, and he comes with a wealth of product development knowledge. He founded and scaled the Reach App to over 100K users and 20 million transactions before selling it to ixigo. He led special projects at ixigo, working on AI and IoT products. Both Kaushik and Pruthi graduated from NSIT, a premier engineering college in India. Anurag Dalia, Wishfie's engineering lead is a serial entrepreneur, who's developed over 15 apps and platforms that have scaled globally.

"There aren't many Indian social media platforms that have scaled globally, mostly because instead of focusing on pure User Generated Content (UGC), they have focused on distributing copyrighted viral content. With our focus on giving common people the visibility through content generated by them, we believe Wishfie would not only scale in India, but will become a global go-to opinion-sharing platform. Wishfie serves a very fundamental human need of being heard," said Pruthi.

"Our focus is to develop cutting edge video tech that will help us scale efficiently and provide a seamless experience to the end users. We are also working on adding a LIVE discussion feature that will be moderated by Artificial Intelligence." added Anurag Dalia.
