American Express advances mobile-first focus with Android Pay

Android Pay now Available in Canada for American Express Cardmembers

TORONTO, June 27, 2017 /CNW/ - American Express today announces the availability of Android Pay, Google's mobile wallet, for Cardmembers in Canada. Android Pay is available for eligible Canadian Consumer, Small Business and Corporate Cards issued by Amex Bank of Canada¹ and is supported on Android devices running on Kitkat 4.4 or higher.

"Whether they're shopping in-stores or in-apps, our Cardmembers now have the option to use Android Pay while continuing to receive all the benefits and rewards from Amex."

The availability of Android Pay is another step forward in American Express' mobile-first focus. With recent updates to the Amex Mobile App, such as Use Points for Purchases, push notifications and touch ID, the company is continuing to offer new services and features to make it easier than ever to pay for purchases on the go.

"Starting today, eligible Canadian Amex Cardmembers will be able to use Android Pay at hundreds of thousands of contactless payment terminals across Canada."

Android Pay offers a fast, simple and secure way to use a card to buy things in-apps or in-stores — all without pulling out a physical wallet. It doesn't share your actual credit or debit card number with the merchant when you pay in stores. Your device can notify you of your transactions with Android Pay. And if your phone is ever lost or stolen, you can simply use Android Device Manager to instantly lock your device from anywhere, secure it with a new password, or even wipe it clean of your personal information.

How to Add an American Express Card to Android Pay

1. Install the Android Pay app on Google Play.
2. Add your eligible American Express Card by following the prompts.
