Legacy Emanuel Relies on Fujifilm's FDR Go and Virtual Grid to Make the Right Treatment Decisions Quickly and Safely
(Booth #4165, South Building, Hall A) - The imaging team at
Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, a full-status Level 1 Trauma Center in
Portland, OR, is reducing image acquisition time, lowering patient
radiation dose, and delivering high quality images that help emergency
clinicians save lives with the installations of Fujifilm's FDR

Grid.

"When choosing a portable unit, we looked for that hard-to-find
combination of a technologically savvy, user-friendly and durable
system," said Tommy Williams, RT(R)(CT), ARRT, manager of Imaging
Services at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. "Yet we couldn't compromise
on image quality because our emergency physicians and surgeons depend on
these images to make the right treatment decisions quickly and safely."
After evaluating six vendors and a variety of solutions, Williams chose
three Fujifilm FDR Go DR systems with Virtual Grid and implemented them
in the adult ER/trauma unit at Legacy Emanuel in February 2015.
Fujfilm's FDR Go mobile DR is a full-featured system in a compact
design. Fujifilm's Virtual Grid is a unique new image processing tool
that intelligently adapts contrast to improve image quality for exams
acquired without a grid.
"Virtual Grid was a key factor in our decision-making process. It
automatically adapts the image processing to repicate grid use to
reduce degradation of the image quality caused by scatter radiation,"
said Williams. "We often don't have much information on incoming
patients from emergency responders, and in many cases we also don't have
the time to place and then line up a grid behind the patient."
The team uses the Virtual Grid feature in 90% of all portable chest
exams and 75% of abdomen exams -which helps ensure physicians receive
high quality images in a hectic emergency environment.
Williams attributes several other benefits to replacing Legacy Emanuel's
CR systems with Fujifilm's portable FDR Go units. For example,
technologists are saving 10 to 12 minutes on every image acquisition,
and study repeat rates have dropped from 8% to 4.2% today with a target
of 2% --saving time, unnecessary cost and radiation exposure to patients
and staff. Moreover, Williams reports that the team reduced dose by 30%
when they moved from CR to DR and by "17% when they transitioned from
another vendor's DR to Fujifilm's FDR Go."
"There's no question that mobile DR systems make sense in chaotic
settings such as emergency departments and trauma units," said Rob
Fabrizio, director of marketing and product development, Digital x-ray
and Women's Health, FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. "Fujifilm's
FDR Go is a solid, reliable, easy-to-maneuver mobile system and the
Virtual Grid feature helps assure images won't be compromised at a time
when every second counts."
