eHarmony Completes Second Phase of IT Infrastructure Refresh

eHarmony today announced it has finished the second phase of its IT infrastructure refresh following the completion of the first phase in Q4 of 2014. Bringing in a next-generation enterprise Big Data Platform on top of Hadoop 2.0, the company will be able to accommodate both organic growth from its eHarmony product and growth from the release of new verticals such as eH+, launched in 2014, and Elevated Careers by eHarmony, expected to launch later this year.

"The key goal is to make the model so adaptive that we create the most engaging, compelling environment possible for our members," said Thod Nguyen, CTO, eHarmony. "These changes will accommodate our growth as well as enable us to more fully utilize data that is available because of the nature of our matching process.

"As our business has grown, we have found the need to analyze new, more granular, and often disparate data to drive our data science initiatives. With the growing volume and complexity of data combined with the required processing power to analyze it, it is no longer cost effective and in some cases not possible wihout the Hadoop 2.0 ecosystem. By combining data science with a big data platform, we are looking to provide deeper insights into our customer's behavior and to improve how they are matched. Our big data and advanced analytics tell us a lot about what our members want and need in a match and with phase two, we will be able to provide even better compatible matches and more often to more customers than ever before."

In addition to the company's growth, rapidly increasing user engagement is driving up the number of matches per day, growing from 13 million matches globally to an anticipated 20 million per day by the end of the year. The next phase of the refresh has also equipped eHarmony will the ability to support a snappier user experience both on mobile and desktop, running matches without impacting the speed or function of eHarmony.com.

"We know that these changes will allow us to scale eHarmony while reducing operational costs, increasing productivity and agility with higher quality. That will add value for our subscribers without adding cost," said Nguyen.
