Lebanese Red Cross Selects LIFEPAK®1000 Defibrillators
Lebanon's
Red Cross Emergency Services (LRC), which provides approximately 80%
of emergency responses in the nation of Lebanon, will equip its
emergency response fleets with defibrillators from Physio-Control.
The Lebanese Red Cross is a humanitarian organization established as an
independent nonprofit organization.

Funded almost entirely by donations from Red Cross Movement partners,
the LRC has purchased 100 Physio-Control LIFEPAK
1000 automated external defibrillator (AED) devices, distributed and
installed by BISCO,
to supply every ambulance in its fleet. The procurement of standard
emergency response AEDs fleet wide reflects the LRC's objective of
standardizing the quality of care each Ambulance crew provides.
"Equipping our response teams with automated external defibrillators
will help us raise the standard ofthe patient care we can provide,"
said Mr. Abdallah Zogheib, Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Previously there were only 42 devices for the whole service, meaning
that the quality of our patient care could be variable. This purchase
helps eliminate that variability."
The LRC has 2,700 trained volunteer EMTs on its rosters across 46 EMS
stations throughout Lebanon to respond to calls arriving on the "140"
national medical emergency telephone line. The LRC is a founding member
of the Secretariat General of the Organization of the Arab Red Crescent
and Red Cross Societies, is part of the International Red Cross and Red
Crescent Movement and a member of the International Federation of the
Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
LRC emergency services are run almost entirely by volunteers, so
operational, training and ease of use are important considerations for
all equipment procurements. The LIFEPAK 1000 is readily operated with
proficiency due to an easy-to-use interface and clear prompts and
display screen. It is also highly adaptable for professional responders,
featuring advanced capabilities that can speed the transition of cardiac
patients to the next critical level of care. The device is capable of
maximum defibrillation energy up to 360 joules and has a long battery
life and rugged construction that can stand up to severe environments.
"By supplying the LRC with LIFEPAK defibrillators, we hope to raise the
standard of care the service can provide across the board," said Martine
Forissier, Physio-Control Business Director for Middle East and Africa.
"Equipping their ambulance service with these defibrillators supports
them in standardizing training, protocols and quality of care. It is an
honor to assist the LRC in working to provide world-class emergency
services."
