Comsys Mobile, HelloSoft Intro Android WiMAX, GSM and WiFi Reference Design

Comsys Mobile and HelloSoft have announced a low cost Android WiMAX, GSM and WiFi (News - Alert) reference design at the 2010 Mobile World Congress.

 

The reference design features HelloSoft’s VoIP and convergence client suite for Android running on HS100 IP Convergence Processor (News - Alert) combined with Comsys Mobile’s ComMAX CM1125, said companies’ officials.

 

A multimode WiMAX/GSM communication processor, Mobile’s ComMAX CM1125 has recently completed Clearwire’s iIOT testing.

 

“The reference design with Comsys (News - Alert) combines HelloSoft’s VoIP and Convergence Suite for Android -- the first complete solution of its kind for Android -- with HelloSoft’s low power IP Convergence Processor to deliver both mobile high speed 4G data capability together with the ubiquitous coverage of GSM at an attractive price point,” said Allan Johnson (News - Alert), senior vice president for marketing and business development at HelloSoft.

 

Ronny Gorlicki, executive vice president for sales at Comsys Mobile, noted that there is a strong market demand for low cost Android multimode WiMAX (News - Alert)/GSM phones. He said that the combined reference design using HelloSoft’s Android VoIP Convergence Software Suite and HS100 IP Convergence Processor with WiFi together with the Comsys Mobile CM1125 WiMAX/GSM-EDGE provides a “compelling feature set.”

 

With the design, ODM/OEMs can quickly bring to market phones and other low cost wireless devices, Gorlicki said, adding that this product category addresses a significant market need in both emerging markets and mature markets where GSM is essential in the handsets and 4G capabilities bring high-speed wireless data on-the-go to mobile users.

 

Johnson said that WiMAX has to date been largely focused on providing high speed wireless data coverage but when combined with HelloSoft’s VoIP over WiMAX Android solution, VoIP over WiMAX with QoS offers an attractive value proposition and additional revenue stream to service providers.
