VeriFone and MasterCard Team Up to Offer MasterPass: Omni-Channel Checkout Experience for Merchants and Consumers


At the 2013 Mobile World Congress, VeriFone Systems Inc. and MasterCard (News - Alert) revealed they entered into an agreement that will enable their customers to use the MasterCard MasterPass service on their mobile devices using the VeriFone GlobalBay software.

The integration of MasterPass, the cloud- based payment option, with GlobalBay mobile retail solutions helps in enhanced customer targeting, improves in-store experiences and opens up new options for payments. Shoppers can now access their MasterPass wallet accounts from anywhere in the store on their smartphones and tablets with the help of Global Bay software.

PayPass Wallet Services, which were announced in 2012, have now evolved into MasterPass services. With help of MasterPass, customers can experience enhanced shopping experiences with a tap or a click in store on an enabled mobile device.

With the help of VeriFone’s GlobalBay mPOS application, customers can scan items, apply discounts and coupons and complete transactions. With GlobalBay Clienteling application, associates can record consumer’s buying habits and preferences and then this data can be leveraged for cross-selling and promotion of other goods. The MasterPass integration thus combines retailer data with actual purchase data of the customer to generate offers that are customized and are targeted at the customer.

Ed Olebe, group head of MasterPass Services at MasterCard, indicated that the customer spectrum shopped in any way suited their style and paid through whichever device was most convenient. He said MasterCard is excited about working with VeriFone, which was a world leader in new forms of payment acceptance at the point of sale and hoped to deliver easy, fast and secure ways to make in-store payments and create new shopping experiences for merchants and consumers alike.

Jennifer Miles, the executive vice president of North America for VeriFone, said, “VeriFone continued to improve the consumer shopping experience and drive omni-channel adoption by helping retailers adopt the new wallet and alternative payment innovations that their customers are demanding.”
