Mobile Companies Pin Hopes On Utilities To Boost Sales

According to a recent Reuters (News - Alert) report, mobile phone companies and associated vendors are planning to showcase their mobile software stores and utility offerings in a bid to boost flagging sales while at CTIA Wireless 2009.

Also, the possibility of lowering plan rates to at least retain customers is seen as a realistic acknowledgement of the hard economic times everyone is going through.
The CTIA (News - Alert) show will host more than 24 mobile telecommunications manufacturers, over a thousand related companies, and approximately 41 thousand experts from 125 countries.
The Reuters rport claims that the majority of representatives at the show will be attempting to distract the consumer’s current increasing preoccupation with Smartphones by displaying single digit dollar games and applications.
Earlier reports from TMCnet discuss the popularity of Smartphones and note that 2009 will be the year of the Smartphone.
"Last year (CTIA) was really focused on devices like Android (News - Alert) and the iPhone. Now people are realizing the power of applications for these devices," said Michael King, Analyst, Gartner. "I think this year it's going to be all applications."

Reps may also leverage the present popularity of mobile music, TMC (News - Alert) reported, with an expected revenue of $4.4 Billion by 2012 - a hundred percent more than what it was by end 2007. Also, that they will be showcasing futuristic technologies such as NFC enabled payments, TMC reported, that could prompt users to replace wallets with mobiles.

Microsoft (News - Alert) is expected to discuss its upcoming mobile applications and may significantly refer to its collaborative efforts with LG Electronics mobile phones division, TMC reported . Also, Sprint Nextel is displaying the Palm Pre. According to this report on TMCnet, the current rate of data usage that is between $ 30 and $60 per month is steep for consumers, and companies will be attempting to find fixes during the show.
