Movea has introduced new applications designed for the healthcare, video gaming and virtual reality markets, and also its latest controls for digital entertainment.
At a current industry event, the company demonstrated how motion-sensing technology will enhance not only consumer electronics and home entertainment, but also the health and well being markets.
Officials said that the France-based medical information technology company RM Ingénierie (RMI) is currently using MotionPod and has deployed it in its BioVal solution, a high-tech solution that allows physical therapists and doctors to quantify Joint Assessment and also monitor physical therapy activity.
The company also unveiled a virtual reality skiing simulation that maps the pitch and roll of the skier’s movements. This helps in controlling the onscreen skiing avatar and dictating the speed and direction in which it moves.
A hiking simulation translates the yaw and pitch of a gamer’s foot movements. This means that raising an ankle or shifting the feet will control the avatar’s speed and direction.
In addition, the company introduced a Windows Media Center control system that allows users to control music and other digital entertainment by pointing the arm, snapping the fingers and turning imaginary knobs in the air.
Sam Guilamé, chairman and CEO at Movea said that the unveiling is a “taste of how our new motion-based solutions are being developed to enhance consumers’ increasingly digital lifestyles.”
Movea’s latest Gyration brand products include the Air Music Remote, a universal remote that offers air-mouse functionality for users of converged home entertainment and the Air Mouse compact mouse designed for business travelers.
