Sharing user made videos over the internet exploded over the last year as a popular way to communicate with peers. Many have found value in using the functionality of their mobile or other recording devices to share happenings with the rest of the interested world. As this phenomenon continues to grow and as mobile devices become more sophisticated to allow for better quality capture of video and audio, users are now offered a way to view and share these videos and other videos while on the go.

Today a Toronto, Canada based company focused on bringing multimedia to the mobile world, Movidity Inc., introduced movy.tv, a mobile media sharing website that will give users true mobile video sharing capabilities.

Unlike other offerings that allow users to upload and share over the internet, this service allows them to actually take it with them on their mobile device-- so they have access to videos and audio on demand and without limiting their viewing capabilities. Users can upload the video for an unlimited time to view and share as they please.

Users are also provided with enhanced features for interacting with videos including advertising injection, email, SMS, groups and media tagging and the ability to pause, fast-forward and rewind using the mobile device.

Once a user uploads their mobile video to the movy.tv website, Movidity's patent-pending mobile media system 'transcodes' it to enable it to be downloaded, viewed and interacted with on a supported cell phone or PDA. It can also be viewed via shockwave on a PC.

The service will first be available to corporate clients on December 15 with expected public availability set for January 15, 2007.

Future versions of movy.tv will also allow users to instantly forward captured video or directly search the movy.tv video archive, as well as allow for the direct streaming of live video for real-time broadcasts.

In order to use the service, users must have a cell phone with a basic browser and java/midp2 capability or Windows Mobile 3.0 and Palm OS 5.0 based PDA's. RIM Blackberry and Pearls are also supported, a news release noted.

"movy.tv is a truly empowering communication tool, allowing virtually anyone to mobilize their own multimedia content quickly and easily for a wide range of mobile devices."

Projected momentum for the future adoption of mobile video is pretty strong. According to a market outlook report, "Mobile Video Devices, Services, and Subscribers" by Infonetics Research, revenues from mobile video services around the world will increase from $46.2 million in 2005 to $5.6 billion in 2009.
