To further answer to consumer demands for a smartphone that offers optimal multimedia and communications capabilities for both personal and business use, Sprint has announced plans for a new BlackBerry (News - Alert) Pearl 8130, available to customers by next month.

The new offering will enhance their customers BlackBerry smartphone experience and includes a thin, sleek design and is an amethyst color.

Mark Guibert, vice president of corporate marketing at RIM commented, "We are extremely pleased to introduce the first CDMA-enabled BlackBerry Pearl with support for the Sprint (News - Alert) Mobile Broadband Network and a range of powerful Sprint multimedia services."

The smartphone offers supports for a broad range of Sprint Power Vision Services—more than have ever been offered on a BlackBerry device, including access to calendar management, personal and corporate email, and the ability to view documents. Now customers can also access the Sprint Music Store and Sprint TV to download stereo-quality tracks instantly over the air or watch video-on-demand with full-motion video and vivid sound, whenever they'd like.

The phone also features an OnDemand service that lets users set up personal preferences and get customized updates based on their zip code—so they can stay informed and connected regardless of where on the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network they are.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 also features built in GPS capabilities. Sprint Navigation offers voice-guided and on-screen turn-by-turn GPS-enabled driving directions and 3-D moving maps. The service also provides local search and real-time traffic alerts, as well as one-click rerouting, anywhere on the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network.

To offer improved quality of communications and services, the phone also includes improved background noise, wind and echo cancellation as well as an improved media player and desktop media manager.

Danny Bowman, vice president of customer equipment for Sprint commented, "The Pearl 8130 is the best BlackBerry candy bar form factor ever launched by Sprint. Operating on the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network, the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 combines advanced smartphone features in an innovative design so customers can leave the laptop behind and live large, all at SprintSpeed."
