Home of M2MBy Carl Ford, Partner, Crossfire Media If the trends from the smartphone industry apply to the M2M evolution then we should expect to see pressure from the Smart Home side of the business to impact the sale of environmental sensors in the near future.
I was struck at a party I attended last week with the use of digital signs.
The videographer was connected with the DJ and the camera kept feeding the digital sign with stills and live feeds that made me think I was flashing back to Soul Train (sorry for the obscure historical reference, it was a "Dancing with the Stars"-type show where everyone danced).
The experience was pretty amazing because it was self feeding, we must be having a good time, look at those pictures. And as the DJ/VJ weaved music videos in with the visuals from the party, the "Hey Now, You're A Rock Star" (another less-obscure reference to a group called Smash Mouth) mentality was electric.
As I watched the efforts of the DJ's computer tech, I became aware that instead of having the table cameras that got developed later, we could end up with Flicker accounts and Facebook (News - Alert) sites that would make the contribution of the attendees a real time experience.
The processing power coming to TV sets indicates that this weaving in and out of broadcast entertainment and communication and device management will continue to be a hot trend.
With Skype (News - Alert) and Android coming to my TV, I expect my smart home might be change the concept of the couch potato to mission control.
