Digium Partner EUS Networks Deploys Asterisk IP Telephony Solutions for Asset Management Company

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Digium Inc., known as the Asterisk (News - Alert) Company, has announced that telephony integration partner EUS Networks has completed and deployed an Asterisk-powered IP telephony solution for trading room floors for a hedge fund client in the asset management space.

Digium’s (News - Alert) Asterisk Business Edition is part of this solution. The Business Edition is the enterprise-grade version of the popular open source telephony software and trading turrets from IP Trade Networks.

“With the customer’s previous system, the staff of 50 traders fielded nearly 200 calls daily with each trader managing an average of six to eight calls simultaneously,” said Jeronimo Romero, CTO, EUS Networks, in a statement. “It took one day for EUS Networks to configure the trade turrets over Asterisk and within once month of the deployment, the firm reported reduced operational costs, enhanced customer service and greater employee productivity.”
The asset management company gained advanced call-control functionality with this implementation. This functionality included call recording capabilities, as required by Sarbanes-Oxley, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. The client also enjoys disaster recovery options, cost advantages of VoIP and the ability to keep existing hardware and phone sets.

Asterisk is known as the most widely used open source telephony platform and toolkit. The platform offers a feature set and standards compliance that empowers developers and systems integrators to create advanced communication solutions that can be customized to meet the specific needs of a business.

“Financial services firms are good shoppers – they’re the last to throw money away on expensive technology when there’s an alternative,” said Leslie Conway (News - Alert), vice president of global marketing for Digium.

Wall Street firms have been pioneers in their use of open source products and technologies. They tend to appreciate the customizability of the solutions as proprietary alternatives are more difficult to work with and can be cost prohibitive. The EUS system delivers the desired benefits at a fraction of the cost of a turret system that uses proprietary software.

“The solution that EUS created gives their customer all the features of a phone system that would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and saves them additional money by letting them keep phones and other system components that they didn’t want to replace,” added Conway. “This sort of application is a great example Asterisk’s ability to add value to an existing telephony infrastructure in a way that delivers fast ROI and that doesn’t require upheaval to the rest of the phone system.”

Technology Marketing Corporation has announced that Digium CEO Danny Windham has accepted its invitation to deliver a Keynote Address at ITEXPO East 2010, taking place Jan. 20 to 22 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami.
