IntelePeer Rolls Out Developer Program in Response to Cost-Savings, Efficiency DemandsBy Erin Harrison, Senior Editor In response to the mounting pressure to reduce operational costs and optimize workforce productivity, IntelePeer (News - Alert) Inc. – a provider of hosted on-demand rich media communications – today launched a program for developers to enable their applications with voice and communications features, hosted from “the cloud,” on the IntelePeer AppworX Open Communications Platform.
In an interview with TMCnet, Charles Studt (News - Alert), vice president of product management for IntelePeer, said that AppworX is a platform for developing voice applications that connect through the IntelePeer hosted global peering network, calling it the “ideal model” for rolling out new communications-enhanced business processes.
“The REST-based APIs already make it easy for developers who lack experience with telephony and VoIP applications to create voice applications that connect through the IntelePeer hosted infrastructure, which in-turn delivers huge communications cost savings without incurring up-front costs and risks,” said Studt.
“This announcement extends way beyond providing the platform. We are launching a developer portal and community that provides developers with everything they need to create and integrate voice and rich media applications in a single place.”
Studt called the new developer portal a “logical” next step because it eliminates any barrier for creating and testing voice and rich media applications built on the AppworX platform.
By registering on the site, developers gain immediate access to all of the site resources, which include:
· A developer forum;
· SDK tools;
· Application programming interface documentation;
· Example applications;
· A PHP code library; and
· Direct access to the IntelePeer global peering network.
Developer program participants also get up to 500 free voice minutes for testing new voice applications, company officials said.
IntelePeer offers voice and multimedia services through “communications as a service” outsourcing model – a hosted, on-demand model for adding communications capabilities to applications and services without upfront capital costs that works in a manner similar to the software as a service model of software deployment.
The announcement is somewhat ironic timing since Skype (News - Alert) has recently pulled back its developer offering, company officials added, which will help the San Mateo, Calif.-based company leverage its AppworX platform.
“Our customers are experiencing tremendous pressure to reduce operational costs like communications, while driving new efficiencies and productivity from their workforce. At the same time, developers have not had many options for creating and deploying voice applications that can reduce those costs,” Studt said.
“Those challenges are what drove us to create the IntelePeer AppworX Open Communications Platform in the first place – to make it easy for Web and applications developers to create voice applications by writing a single line of code.
By expanding on that advantage, Studt said, makes IntelePeer “the simple choice” for developers to create powerful, business-class communications applications, that in-turn, drive new efficiencies for employees, while also reducing communications costs.
“Because everything is hosted by IntelePeer, there are no risks and customers pay as they go. It’s the ideal model for rolling out new communications-enhanced business processes,” Studt said.
