Google Voice Includes Business VoIP Features

With the upcoming release of Google (News - Alert) Voice, consumers may finally get to experience telephony features that business VoIP customers have had for years, like a find me/follow me service.

Google Voice allows you to set up which of your phones ring according to the time and the caller. A business VoIP service like OnSIP does something very similar by allowing customers to decide which phones ring when an OnSIP number is dialed according to working hours that a user can configure online.

Perhaps more important for businesses is an indicator of worker availability.   Suppose person A receives a client call but he is in a 4-hour meeting. Person B who works for the same company should be able to seamlessly pick up the call to avoid a frustrated customer. OnSIP is currently working on incorporating a presence indicator into its upcoming dashboard communication interface.

A private beta of the dashboard, which will include control of calls, presence, coworker status, and IM all in one browser window, will be released later this summer.
