TEMIA's Expert Panel at ITEXPO East 2011 to Discuss Telecom Expense Management

By Juliana Kenny, TMCnet Web Editor

ITEXPO (News - Alert) East 2011 brings the technology world’s most innovative thought leaders together to learn, discuss, and demonstrate all of the ground-breaking solutions that have developed over the past few months, and muse over we are to see in the future.

In a coming session on February 2 at the ITEXPO East in Miami, the Telecom Expense Management Industry Association (TEMIA (News - Alert)) will moderate a panel expert discussion featuring thought leaders in the TEM industry who will discuss different ways to proactively avoid bill shocks. The session is headlined “If Charges for Wireless Service Plans Keep Going Down, Why Does My Spending Keep Rising?”

30 million American mobile phone users have experienced bill shock as discovered by the US Federal Communications Commission in a survey in 2010. Joe Basili, managing director of TEMIA stated, “TEMIA members report that mobile bill shock affects companies in all regions including Europe, Asia, Canada, and Latin America, which requires a more proactive approach with TEM, WEM and MDM solutions.”

The most recent trend is that bill shock is not just happening to the run-of-the-mill consumer anymore. Enterprises are experiencing explosive wireless bills these days too. In a recent blog post, Rich Tehrani (News - Alert), CEO of TMC noted, "Telecom costs are not a given and an entire industry of telecom expense management companies have evolved over the years to help organizations manage the complexities and escalating costs of voice and data plans of the wired and wireless variety.”

The TEMIA session is sure to shed some light on this subject that troubles not just telcos, but millions of consumers each year. Julie Palen, senior vice president of Mobile Device Management for Tangoe (News - Alert) stated, “Bill shock is not just a consumer-oriented term anymore. We’re hearing from our customers every day that enterprise mobility costs are taking a significant cut out of communications budgets- often in the form of hidden, unforeseen expenses.”

Both Basili and Palen are speaking at the session which will also include Kevin Whitehurst, managing partner and co-founder of MindWireless, Juan Carlos Méndez, VP of Business Development for xpensert, and Joe Chopek, president, Avalon Global Solutions.

Palen continued, “The good news is there are options for organizations grappling with bill shock and looking to get ahead of the curve. I look forward to sharing many of these tactics and strategies during this session.”
