Taqua's MobileWorks Allows Service Providers to Deliver Voice Over WIFI

MIAMI & RICHARDSON, Texas --(Business Wire)--

Taqua®, LLC, a leading supplier of next-generation switching systems and applications, announced today at ITEXPO East 2009 in Miami that the Taqua MobileWorks™ solution can now enable voice services over WIFI networks, simultaneously and in conjunction with other IP-based or TDM services through the Taqua 7000™ Class 5 Switching System.

The new Taqua MobileWorks solution allows Wireline or Wireless service providers to extend their existing service offerings to mobile subscribers when utilizing their dual-mode WIFI phone within range of a WIFI network. Independent of their mobile carrier, the mobile subscriber can now download an applet onto their dual-mode phone which will seamlessly connect their calls onto the service provider's network via IP, terminating across Taqua MobileWorks to their network of choice. Users can make/receive calls directly from their smartphone - anytime, anywhere - regardless of their physical location or mobile service provider. Allowing subscribers to roam between mobile and WIFI networks, the Taqua MobileWorks solution automatically hands-off calls between the IP and cellular network when away from a WIFI coverage area which dramatically improves the quality of cell phone conversations that occur inside buildings and homes.

"Often times, especially in rural America, the reach of wireless communications can be challenged within buildings whether it's a home or business," said Scott Weidenfeller, chief marketing officer for Taqua, LLC. "Most buildings today now have WIFI-enabled networks. With this new Taqua MobileWorks application, dual-mode phone subscribers can utilize any WIFI network to make and receive calls without using their mobile minutes. Service providers benefit by enabling a higher level of convenience for their subscribers, but they also benefit by increasing termination traffic through their T7000 Class 5 switching system.

The Taqua 7000 (T7000) Switching System is at the core of the Taqua's award winning MobileWorks solutions set. The T7000 is the only field-proven next generation Class 5 switch to successfully replace every brand and vintage of Class 5 switch in North America, while simultaneously delivering SIP, MGCP, and NCS-based packet telephony. Designed as a 17" X 24" gateway-like chassis, the T7000 utilizes a patented "switch-on-a-card" design which places all switching functions on a single card within the shelf. While one card may provide Class 5 end-office telephony, another card provides IP telephony services to subscribers over broadband networks. With the July 2008 announcement of Taqua's Mobile Interface Card (MIC), the T7000 can now concurrently provide wireless switching solutions for GSM/CDMA, 2G, 3G or 4G networks.
