PortaOne Announces Interop Between PBXpress IP PBX and Sangoma VoIP Cards

By Erik Linask, Group Managing Editor

With the growth of the IP Communications industry, and its relative success, even under trying economic conditions, the number of products and solutions has become so great that it is nearly impossible for a single provider to offer a complete solution. Sure there are a few that try and, in some cases, they succeed, but, the trend today toward multi-vendor solutions, which necessitates more interoperability work between vendors.

While on one hand, it means more time, effort, and expense for the vendors. On the other, it provides greater choice, which is good for the industry at large, including service providers and solutions developers.

“Internet Telephony Service Providers need best-in-class IP PBX (News - Alert) options for a wide range of customers,” said Roman Khalenkov, sales and marketing director for PortaOne, a provider of carrier-grade software solutions for VoIP providers, including a converged VoIP billing and provisioning platform, class 4 and 5 SIP softswitch, unified messaging and conferencing applications, IP PBX software, and more.

Among its offerings is PBXpress, from PBXPress Communications, an IP PBX targeted at the SMB market, with integrated call recording capabilities — among the most requested features today. Increasing its ability to offer greater choice (not to mention that call recording can be a challenge without telephony cards), PortaOne (News - Alert) has confirmed interoperability between PBXpress and Sangoma’s A101, A102, and A200 telephony cards.

One of the early shortcomings of VoIP was its less than stellar quality, but companies like Sangoma have endeavored to provide the voice quality and DSPs required to provide high quality voice solutions to today’s businesses — which has helped increase adoption of VoIP services.

Supporting a migration process to an all-IP environment, which is a benefit to many SMBs looking to save dollars by moving over parts of their operations at a time, Sangoma’s digital telephony cards support both voice and data communications with Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTNs), including on-premises analog telephones.

The three Sangoma products that are interoperable with PBXpress are: the A101, single port card supporting up to 30 voice calls or 2.048 Mbps over a single T1/E1/J1 line; the A102, for up to 60 voice calls or 4.096 Mbps over two T1/E1/J1 lines; and the A200, a scalable FXO/FXS telephony card that expands to directly connect from 2 to 24 analog telephones.

“PBXpress and Sangoma cards make a dynamic combination able to support today’s heterogeneous telecom landscape,” said Kathleen Reed, Marketing Director of Sangoma. “Small to mid-sized companies seeking to incorporate the benefits of IP PBX into their existing telecom
infrastructures will be pleased with the call quality, easy connectivity, and unparalleled reliability afforded by PBXpress and Sangoma.”

PBXpress helps SMBs enter the digital age, placing and receiving calls over VoIP networks, cutting phone costs, as well as bringing a new set of features that simplifies the communications process and increases collaboration among colleagues.  In addition to many advanced IP PBX features available in PBXpress, such as call recording, auto-detection and auto-provisioning of IP phones, auto-attendant, operator console, clustering, Web administration and self-care, the system also provides a PTSN fallback in case of Internet failure, allowing calls to be completed using traditional telecom phone lines.

For a closer look at PBXpress, visit PortaOne at booth #826 in the ITEXPO exhibit hall, where you will find communications solutions for service providers, enterprises, SMBs, and developers. Kathleen and the Sangoma team will also be on hand to provide more detail about the Sangoma line of telephony cards, which includes both proprietary and open source solutions designed for a wide range of applications. Visit Sangoma at booth #703.
